U18 CI SCHOOLBOYS - WORLD SCHOOLBOYS 7s Tournament on Saturday 17/12/16 in Akl/NZ

The U18 Cook Islands 7s SCHOOLBOYS will participate at the inaugural WORLD SCHOOLBOYS 7s Tournament to be held on Saturday 17/12/16 in Auckland / NZ.

The Cook Islands team have assembled in Auckland with players flying in from Australia and Rarotonga.

Yesterday the team had their first team hit-out match against Samoa and Australia.

“Yesterdays hit-out matches against Samoa and Australia were of good value – this was the first time that the players have played together as a team so we were able to give everyone a game and try out various combinations. We are quietly confident that we can surprise a few teams at the tournament ” – said Manager Cam Kilgour.

There are a few local players in this squad such as; 17 old twins Matt and Nick Maui from Arorangi, and NZ rugby scholarship students – Josh Motu ( Avatiu – now attending Rangiora High School) and Toto Tupuna (Tupapa – One Tree Hill College).

The Cooks have been drawn in the same Pool as Fiji and New Zealand.

With Rugby 7s now an Olympic sport the creation of competition pathways close to home is crucial.
