The Eels do it again! Steinlager 7s Tournament 22 Oct 2016

Steinlager 7’s Tournament on Saurday 22nd October 2016 at Avatiu Field

THE EELS DO IT - AGAIN

After losing their first game in Pool Play(against Manatoa by 5-19) the Eels were able to; reset, re-focus and then reverse the result when it mattered the most. In the Grand Final the Eels were able to defeat Manatoa by 21-7, the Eels express pace with their band of speedsters; Enedi Ratudaradara, Samu “Mr Bean” Alafua and Lai Rogorogovalu all scoring tries close to the goal posts for the Eels to convert all three tries for the 21-7 victory in the Final against Manatoa. The lone Manataoa try was scored by Sailosi Nagi after a good offensive tackle by pivot Steven Willis.

This was the first time that a One-Day Tournament of this nature was held and it was a good contest, survival of the fittest teams - with both finalists playing 4 matches over a 5 hour period from 1pm to 6pm.

As part of the programme it was good to also watch some age grade Sevens with the U15 CI Schoolboys team playing 3 matches against an U16 TKV Reds team that also included players from other clubs.  Some age grade players who stood out were: the U16 TKV Reds; Sam Taoro, Salvatory Ngaroi, Alfonse Ngaau and James Nand. Bests for the U15 CI Schools team were; Willie Rani, Enua Heather, Avaiki Ama and David Napa.

Once again CIRU would like to thank you major sponsors Steinlager and The Bond Store for all your support, Avatiu Rugby Club for the use of your fantastic facilities, all the teams, the medics, supporters and especially our referee’s – meitaki maata and God Bless you all.
